First Rays of 2017

Looking back at 2016

By curiosity, I read what I had shared in January 2016. It was with a heavy heart that I  was about to leave Bali for the first time to head to Cambodia and Sri Lanka. I was feeling excited but nervous. I did not know at the time that I would travel seamlessly for seven consecutive months to discover countries that I did not even had in mind.

My annual review I had done most of it in September 2016 when I celebrated my first anniversary abroad. Since then, there had been returns to Bali and Nepal to close my reflection on this year of great travels.

For 2016, I wished for a magical and memorable year. And so it was on my side.

How was your year? What was your highlight of 2016? An achievement of which you are particularly proud of?

My highlight: my trip to Myanmar – a land that deeply seduced me. I must add, to live on longer periods in Bali.

My key realization: the confidence and assurance that I acquired by traveling. My blog.

Looking back, I can easily say that 2016 was the most beautiful year I’ve experienced so far. I do not write this because of the number of trips I have made. I calculated to have visited 8 different countries, made 10 trips and took 22 flights! A great year of travels that probably makes some of you dream. At the same time, it may not seem that much to the eyes of many nomads who easily explore three times more countries in a year.

I calculated these numbers to remind me the road traveled and not to show off, believe me.

This exercice confirmed me that I am a sedentary nomad! I like living outside of my country of origin while staying in the same place for a long time. So I can develop a connection with the community of the country that I am visiting.

2016 was the most beautiful year I have lived because of the experiences that continue to softly transform the woman I am becoming … A Nathalie more at peace and aligned with herself.

2016: the end of a cycle

The year 2016 was represented by the number “9” in numerology (2 + 0 + 1 + 6 = 9). It was a year that inspired us to close the loop of the last nine years by eliminating what was no longer in alignment for us. The end of a cycle. Did you feel it?

2017: a new beginning

We are now beginning a new cycle with a year 1 (2 + 0 + 1 + 7 = 10, 1 + 0 = 1). 2017 offers us a very fertile soil to plant our intentions in the long term. Seeds that will set the tone for the next nine years of our lives! Be clear, confident and passionate when writing your intentions.

Is there a sphere of your life in which you would like to have more courage in? Add this statement to your intentions, your vision board, your affirmations of the day, your journal … whatever method suits you best, simply express it sincerely.

In addition to being a year of new beginnings, the number 2017 contains the vibration of our life mission. 2017 encourages us to have faith, self-confidence and confidence in circumstances. A favorable year to be guided (and ask to be) to what makes us happy, to our life purpose.

Moment of silence

I had not published anything for a month. On Christmas Day, I wrote about the silence of the Himalayas and the next day, the silence was complete: my computer was no longer working. The humidity damaged the hard drive.

This incident, which lasted three weeks, was a nice reminder to detach from the material and the circumstances. To live more in the present moment. To get rid of the pressure to perform at any price by writing a series of articles in the time that I am the only one imposing myself to. To add flexibility and gentleness in my life. Themes I want to remember throughout 2017.

A sweet pause

During this break, I was reading “A New Earth – Create a Better Life” by Eckhart Tolle. A very instructive work for anyone who seeks to understand the subtle games of our ego that choke our true self.

Tolle speaks of three basic concepts to adopt in all circumstances in order to achieve true freedom of being. Concepts that are found in Buddhism:

  • Non-resistance
  • Non-judgment
  • Non-attachment – impermanence

Eckhart Tolle summarizes these three key words with a powerful sentence:

“This too will pass”.

He explains:

“The recognition of this too will pass brings detachment and with detachment another dimension comes into your life – inner space. Suddenly, there is space around the event and circumstances. Space around the emotional highs and lows. Space between your thoughts. “

In other words, all the events that occur in our lives are transient. Everything, good or bad, will eventually pass. By being aware of this impermanence we can appreciate the good things without being afraid of losing them. By creating this space between us and the situation, we become more aware of why this event presented itself to us and the learning we have to learn from it.

This too will pass is my mantra for the year and maybe it will also inspire you in your way of reacting to circumstances in your daily life.

My wishes for 2017

I realize that this article is in fact a summary of keywords that represent my wishes for us for the year 2017.

Perharps a word or an idea will find a particular resonance in you. If so, I would love to read it. Don’t be shy to engage the conversation just below!

I want to finish by saying that with the beginning of a new year also comes some pressure with so many inspiring blogs, texts and video guiding us on how to set our goals for the year. Inspiration is never a problem but the time is, righ? Here’s a nice piece of advice from Marie Forleo:

“If it’s important enough for you, you’ll make the excuses.”

Bright year 2017 to you dear readers!
